About New Zealand

New Zealand (NZ) is an island country situated in the south-western Pacific Ocean. The country has two landmasses and several smaller islands. The landscape here offers the perfect backdrop to do adventurous activities like bungee jumping, rafting, and skydiving. The volcanoes, high mountains, lakes, and beaches present, adds the thrill of living.


Besides the above, New Zealand has become an attractive destination for Indian students. The quality of education and the qualifications offered are recognized worldwide. The education system is centrally-managed by the government that requires all New Zealand education institutions registered with the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA).


The government finances eight universities, sixteen Technology, and Polytechnic institutions and around five hundred fifty Private Training Establishments (PTEs) including English language schools.

NZ’s education institution offers:

  • High Degree-level education

  • Vocational degrees

  • Certificate and diploma level programs

There is a limited number of scholarships offered for UG courses by NZ institutes in the range of NZ $2000 to 2500. For masters and doctorate degrees, scholarship offered is NZD$ 6000 to 13,000 annually.

Eligibility 

  • To study in New Zealand, one needs to clear IELTS or TOEFL or PTE (Pearson Test of English). For Bachelor and Post Graduate courses, an overall score of 6.5 bands are needed. For level 6 and 7 diploma courses, a band score of 5.5 is accepted.

  • Many top NZ universities ask for a first-class or high second class degree for opting to postgraduate programs. For undergraduate-level courses, a score of 70 % or higher is required. Private independent colleges have no mark eligibility and accept any degree. In some cases, colleges ask for work experience to pursue a Bachelor’s degree.

 

Expenses
Tuition fees are based on the course and the university chosen. The average tuition fees are NZ$25,000 to 45,000 per academic year. For other expenses, an average of NZ $15,000 to 17,000 a year is needed.

 

Process
Applications are invited from final year/semester foreign students. Foreign students studying BSc/B.com can apply as soon as the S4/S5 mark lists are received. B. Tech. students can apply when they receive s6 mark-lists. Higher secondary school students can start to apply with their 11th grades or certificates.

 

Docs required by NZ universities:

  • Letter of Acceptance by NZ’s education institution.

  • Statement of purpose 

  • A financial statement showing fund to pay for the course and stay

  • Etc.
     

The student has to attend the Interview with the visa officer, clarifying certain parts of your application. You must be able to convince him/her that your study plans are genuine and workable.

English language assessment score (IELTS/TOEFL/PTE) is not needed at the application stage.
 

Rules for Foreign Students

  • Show intent to follow a full-time degree course at a single NZ institution and studying for 15 hours daytime per week.

  • No part-time work in NZ if the study course is for six months or less.

  • Must leave New Zealand after completion of the study.
     

Work Opportunity
New Zealand has a shortage of manpower in its labor market, and so requires fresh graduates in high demand. Students who wish to stay in New Zealand must have the required job skills. They can stay here permanently after applying for a Skilled Migrant Visa.
